🎡 Core Wheels

Random Letter Wheel

Spin for a random letter from A to Z. Switch to vowels, consonants or easy letters for word games and classroom phonics.

Spin a random letter for any word game

The Random Letter Wheel picks a letter of the alphabet at random. It is built for word games like Scattergories, Stop (also called Basta or Categories), Boggle warm-ups and alphabet challenges — and for teachers who need a quick, fair way to choose letters for phonics and spelling practice.

How to use the letter wheel

  1. Start with the full alphabet, or tap Vowels, Consonants or Easy letters.
  2. Delete any letters you do not want — Q, X and Z are common ones to remove.
  3. Press Spin to get your letter.
  4. Click Remove after each round so the same letter does not come up twice in one game.

Game ideas with a random letter

  • Categories: name a fruit, a city, an animal and a band starting with the letter.
  • Story starters: every sentence must begin with the letter on the wheel.
  • Phonics practice: students say the sound and a word that starts with it.
  • Name game: introduce yourself with an adjective that matches the letter (“Lively Lucas”).
  • Drawing challenge: sketch three objects that start with the letter in 60 seconds.
  • Language learning: list vocabulary words in your new language.

Customize your alphabet

The list is fully editable, so you can use it for other alphabets too — Spanish with Ñ, German with Ä Ö Ü, Greek letters for maths, or even letter combinations like “CH” and “SH”. Add a letter twice to make it appear more often. Want a number instead? Use the Random Number Wheel. For classroom questions, the Classroom Question Wheel pairs perfectly.

Click “Remove” after each spin, or turn on automatic removal in Options.
